Vocabulary Workshop
Unit Four test scheduled for today, Monday. Unit Five is due on Thursday of this week, when books are required in class.

Grammar assignment (page 225 in English Workshop) is due Wednesday, when books are due in class. A new grammar lesson and homework wiil be assigned.

Anthologies are due in class Monday and Tuesday for literary terms. Letter to the Editor prewriting for the short story "The Bet" is due Tuesday and the letter due on Friday.

The multiple choice practice for the Secondary Periodic Assessment-Persuasion continues all week in class in preparation for the upcoming test. The Clinton speech will be assigned this week and students should read to answer the depth and complexity questions that were used for the Chavez speech. Reader/Writer notebooks will be used for prewriting the practice persuasive examination to be scheduled next week.

The Catcher in the Rye
final exam will be scheduled this week. The essay is due on November 9.

Vocabulary Workshop Unit Four will be scheduled on Thursday and student should bring textbooks to class; test date will be announced in class.

Multiple choice practice for the persuasion unit of the Secondary Periodic Assessment continues in class. The Chavez speech is due on Tuesday; Monday will be spent on methods to interpret author's purpose and intent using the Multicultural Literature book. The final speech, Clinton's address in Memphis, will be scheduled as well. Students will continue work in the Reader/Writer notebooks.

Grammar assignment is due Monday; English Workshop grammar books are due in class on Wednesday for continuing grammar work.

The Catcher in the Rye talking points for Chapters Twenty-One through Twenty-Six are due on Friday. Complete talking points on each chapter, except for Twenty-Six. The final class discussion is scheduled for Friday. A multiple choice exam and final essay will be scheduled as well.

Anthologies are due in class on Tuesday for the next set of literary terms and a test will be scheduled in class. The letter to the editor assignment from the short story "The Bet" will be assigned on Tuesday and a due date set.

The Sojourner Truth essay prompt has reopened on gomyaccess.com for those students who were not able to complete it. The new deadline is Wednesday, October 28. Handwritten or typed essays of the prompt will receive credit only, not a letter grade for this assignment. All students are encouraged to submit the essay online.

Literary terms 41-50 from Elements of Literature, 4th Course will be reintroduced on Monday and Tuesday when textbooks are required in class with a test scheduled and to be announced. A "Letter to the Editor" writing assignment will accompany the short story "The Bet" and due dates will be announced in class.

Five talking points per chapter for Chapters Sixteen-Twenty of Catcher in the Rye are due on Friday for our usual class discussion. A test on Chapters these chapters will precede the class discussion.

Grammar assignment from English Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, when books are due in class.

Vocabulary Workshop
Unit I-III cumulative review answers are due on Tuesday, and test is scheduled for Thursday in class; students should study the textbook to prepare.

Work on the Chavez speech and Clinton speech will be completed in class this week; multiple choice work for the persuasive secondary periodic assessment will also be completed. The Say-Mean-Matter graphic organizers for the Chavez speech will be assigned and transferred to the Reader/Writer notebooks.

Students who completed the Sojourner Truth essay online will be provided with their essays and scores; those who were unable to log in and complete the speech will be offered a score on an essay format yet to be decided.

Students are also responsible for completing reading of "The Bet" and the associated answers to questions downloaded on Homework One are due today in class. A "Letter to the Editor" writing assignment will accompany the short story and due dates will be announced.

Five talking points per chapter for Chapters Eleven-Fifteen of Catcher in the Rye are due on Friday for our usual class discussion. A test on Chapters Six-Ten will be given today before students complete their class discussions from last Friday.

This week's study of the Sojourner Truth "Ain't I A Woman" speech will require that students complete an online essay at gomyaccess.com by Friday. This persuasive essay should address the prompt available online. A Cornell Notes quiz is scheduled for this week and students will be given time to study their notes to prepare. Unit III Vocabulary Workshop answers are due on Thursday, and the English Workshop grammar textbook is due in class on Wednesday for a grammar lesson. Elements of Literature, 4th Course books are used on Mondays and Tuesdays and students should be reading the short story "The Bet," and beginning to answer questions posed when Homework One was downloaded earlier in the semester. The next set of literary terms will be assigned as well, with a quiz scheduled either later this week or early next week. Chapters Six-Ten of Catcher in the Rye talking points are due on Friday for our weekly class discussion. Remember to write five talking points per chapter for this week. The "Say-Mean-Matter" graphic organizer will be used in class this week as an additional resource to prepare for the upcoming essay and the Secondary Periodic Assessment-Persuasion unit--Period Five will visit the Vantage Writing Lab on Wednesday to work on the essay but is still responsible for bringing the English Workshop text to class for a grammar lesson. The Clinton and Chavez speeches will be assigned soon and multiple-choice practice for the assessment continues in class. "The Cold Equations" changing the ending assignment has been scored and will be returned to students.
