STUDYPATH* September 28-October 2, 2009

In-class assignments and class updates trump published blogs.

*POTENTIAL, ACHIEVEMENT, THOUGHT, HONOR

This week's blog debuts the weekly schedule in narrative form rather than in a day-by-day format.

Monday is an unassigned day so classes will resume on Tuesday, when students will take a literary terms test in class. "Ain't I A Woman," Sojourner Truth's speech will be discussed as part of the Secondary Periodic Assessment persuasion unit; multiple-choice practice for the persuasive SPA exam will also continue. "The Cold Equations" creative writing assignment is due today and should be stapled on top of the prewriting and prompt paper distributed last week. Textbook days will change slightly and require that the anthology is brought to class Mondays and Tuesday, while English Workshop is required on Wednesdays, Vocabulary Workshop on Thursday, and the assigned novel, Catcher in the Rye on Fridays. Students submitted five talking points for Chapters One-Five of the novel and will participate in a class discussion on Friday. Vocabulary Workshop Unit II answers are due on Thursday with a test date to be announced in class. Reader/Writer notebooks and "Say-Mean-Matter" comprehension strategies will be used with the Truth speech as well as speeches to be assigned from Clinton and Chavez. Students must return the letter to parents and the reading level signed documents. Cornell Notes now have been scored as has Homework One and all graded assignments will be returned; test on Cornell Notes to be announced. Vantage Writing Lab dates are Wednesday-Thursday for Period Five and Period One will receive its orientation on Wednesday--these students will be unable to use the lab but will be required to submit work online the same as Period Five students. Check teacher pages frequently as assignments are added and updated during the week.
