STUDYPATH* February 1-5, 2010

In-class assignments and class updates trump published blogs.

Final examinations are scheduled this week: Period One final is Friday, and Period Five final is Thursday. Using portfolios, students will write semester reflections.

Paraphrasing activity for the Douglass piece is scheduled for Monday. More work on the Douglass and Malcolm X selections are scheduled in class as students prepare for the Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition. Multiple choice practice also continues in class.

No vocabulary work is due for this week and will be assignment after final exams.

Holt Grammar activities continue in class on Monday and Tuesday.

The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Acts IV and V are also scheduled for the early part of this week.

Acts III, IV, and V continue in class.

English Workshop and Holt Grammar will be assigned this week.

Unit Eight Vocabulary Workshop test is scheduled for Tuesday; Unit Nine Vocabulary Workshop answers are due Thursday.

Multiple choice work and assigned reading on Douglass, Alexie, and Cisneros continues in class to prepare for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday is observed on Monday. No classes are in session.

The grammar assignment from English Workshop pages 279-280 is due Tuesday. Students will take the Unit Seven Vocabulary Workshop test on Tuesday as well. Unit Eight will be assigned.

Multiple choice practice for the Secondary Periodic Assessment continues in class while the Cisneros, Alexie, and Douglass selections will be reviewed in anticipation of the upcoming examination.

Students continue reading aloud Act I of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Outlining and responses to questions about the play are being scored and will be returned when completed.

Holt Grammar is scheduled for in-class work this week.

Students read The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and outlined relevant sections of the Shakespeare/American Communities website so that prereading was complete before study of the play. Additional winter break homework including reading checks and Acts I-V questions, which are also due today.

Students will complete and organize portfolios this week so that assignments are in order for the upcoming semester reflection final examination.

"Straw into Gold" by Sandra Cisneros and "Superman and Me" by Sherman Alexie will be reviewed for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition exam; "Narrative in the life of Frederick Douglass" nonfiction excerpt will be assigned in class. Multiple choice test taking skills will be assigned in class this week to prepare for that component of the examination.

Vocabulary Workshop
work will continue and assignments made for the next unit.

Grammar from English Workshop and Holt Grammar will continue and assignments will announced in class.
