Resiliency Unit is introduced and paper due Monday, November 16 on turnitin.com web site by 8:30 A.M.
Grammar assignment for Common Usage Problems started in class Friday is due today
Fahrenheit 451 textbooks are returned to class by students

Tuesday November 10
Catcher in the Rye paper is due today by 8:30 A.M. on turnitin.com web site; choose one of the three prompts distributed in class
Vocabulary Workshop Units One-Six cumulative test is scheduled today
Catcher in the Rye (complete novel and all dialectical journals) class discussion is scheduled today and Thursday
1.     Discuss Holden Caulfield's relationship with his sister Phoebe.  How does she view him?  What is Holden's perception of her?  How do those views contribute to our understanding of Holden as the main character in The Catcher In The Rye?
2.     Discuss how Holden Caulfield changes during the course of the novel.  What does he learn about himself?  What does he learn about the people with whom he comes in contact?  Does he indeed "come of age" and grow to understand himself because of the many people and experiences he encounters?
3.     Choose one of the following and explain its symbolic significance in the novel.  A symbol is something, often an object, that stands for something besides itself.

  1. Allie's baseball glove
  2. Holden's red hunting cap
  3. The carrousel in Central Park
