"The Standard of Living" short story continues in class; paper is due November 4 by 8:30 A.M. on turnitin.com web site; use rhetorical devices and literary terms (including quoted material) to address language/tone prompt:  similes, asides, indirect dialogue, understatement, litotes, denouement, resolution, antithesis, climax, polysyndeton, alliteration (tone handouts were also provided)
Lord of the Flies analytical paper is due by 8:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 30 on turnitin.com web site
Literary terms and rhetorical devices from Pre-AP Readings and Exercises continue in class all week
Catcher in the Rye novels are assigned in class; Chapters One-Five dialectical journals (one per chapter) are due Friday for class discussion

Tuesday
Unit Five Vocabulary Workshop test is scheduled; Unit Six Vocabulary Workshop responses are due Friday
Nonfiction selections from Pre-AP Readings and Exercises continue in class

Wednesday
Lord of the Flies analytical paper is due today; use prewriting from the character traits and universal symbol log handouts provided in class; quotes are required for analysis/plot summary must be avoided

Thursday
Rhetorical devices and literary terms from Pre-AP Readings and Exercises continue in class

Friday
Class discussion for Chapters One-Five of Catcher in the Rye is scheduled; dialectical journals are due today
Unit Six Vocabulary Workshop responses are due today
LA Times letter to the editor is due Monday
