The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Acts IV and V continue in class this week. Film screening date will be announced and the final essay for the play scheduled. Antigone begins in mid-February.
Vocabulary Workshop Units Seven-Nine assignment is due next Tuesday, February 16. The Unit One-Nine test will be scheduled next week.
Work on the Douglass, Cisneros, and Alexie pieces continue in class as well as multiple choice practice in preparation for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition assessment. The practice essay on movie ratings is due by the end of the week; no late submissions accepted.

Preparation for the Getty Museum at the Villa field trip will begin this week as students are acquainted with the trip's purpose and objectives. Trip slips must be completed and returned by Wednesday, February 24; any late field trip slips will result in students not completing the trip. Lunch tickets dated March 1, 2010 must be submitted by Friday, February 19; students who do not submit lunch tickets by this date will be responsible for either buying lunch at the Villa or bringing their own lunches. Students must write names on lunch tickets for submission to the cafeteria manager. In-class web site exploration will accompany written lesson plans as additional preparation for this important learning opportunity.

Unit III Vocabulary Workshop answers are due on Thursday, and the English Workshop grammar textbook is due in class on Wednesday for a grammar lesson. Elements of Literature, 4th Course books are used on Mondays and Tuesdays and students should be reading the short story "The Bet," and beginning to answer questions posed when Homework One was downloaded earlier in the semester. The next set of literary terms will be assigned as well, with a quiz scheduled either later this week or early next week. Monday is an unassigned day so classes will resume on Tuesday, when students will take a literary terms test in class. "Ain't I A Woman," Sojourner Truth's speech will be discussed as part of the Secondary Periodic Assessment persuasion unit; multiple-choice practice for the persuasive SPA exam will also continue. "The Cold Equations" creative writing assignment is due today and should be stapled on top of the prewriting and prompt paper distributed last week. Textbook days will change slightly and require that the anthology is brought to class Mondays and Tuesday, while English Workshop is required on Wednesdays, Vocabulary Workshop on Thursday, and the assigned novel, Catcher in the Rye on Fridays. Students submitted five talking points for Chapters One-Five of the novel and will participate in a class discussion on Friday. Vocabulary Workshop Unit II answers are due on Thursday with a test date to be announced in class. Reader/Writer notebooks and "Say-Mean-Matter" comprehension strategies will be used with the Truth speech as well as speeches to be assigned from Clinton and Chavez.
