All pages in Vocabulary Workshop between the end of Unit Fifteen and the Final Mastery Test are due in class. To help facilitate the submission of this assignment because the Tuesday field trip to UCLA is so important, Wednesday is permissible as the due date. Likewise, the answers for five of the twelve questions for To Kill A Mockingbird will also be due on Wednesday.

Multiple choice in preparation for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Literary Analysis will be completed in class.

"Lamb to the Slaughter" multiple choice and essay prompt will be completed in class.

Students will access internet sources using laptop computer cart on Wednesday and Thursday in class in preparation for the June 7 research paper deadline.

English Workshop and the tenth grade anthologies should be returned beginning Tuesday so these texts may be submitted to the textbook room.

Monday is a legal holiday, Memorial Day, and classes are not in session.

Jury duty research paper is assigned with a due date of June 7; students access OWL (Online Writing Lab) online to ascertain formatting and style requirements. Thesis statements, working outlines, and sources list are returned so students may begin writing draft of paper. To Kill A Mockingbird is scheduled to be screened Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.

Holt Grammar and English Workshop continues in class and as homework.

Unit Fifteen Vocabulary Workshop test is scheduled for Tuesday; answers to Unit Fifteen textbook activities will be announced Monday.

Chapters Eleven-Fifteen talking points are due on Friday. Research paper on jury duty will be scheduled when students have reached the trial portion of the novel.

Getty Villa Museum field trip slips must be submitted by Wednesday, February 24; students who do not submit a trip slip by that date will not make the trip. Lunch tickets dated March 1 should be submitted when they are available. Students should write names on the tickets and submit to teacher to assure a lunch is prepared for them. No classes are in session on Monday, February 15, Presidents' Day, a legal holiday.

Students must submit work Tuesday from Vocabulary Workshop for pages related to Units Seven, Eight, and Nine. Complete all pages up to Unit Ten. The Unit One-Nine Cumulative test will be scheduled in class.

The movie ratings practice essay for the Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition is due Tuesday. The booklet should include the prewriting, the graphic organizer and the completed essay.

The diagnostic CAHSEE essay and multiple choice components must be completed in class today since essays will be scored during today's professional development. Multiple choice responses will be scored and available by the end of the week.

Holt Grammar assignments will be made in class this week.

The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Acts IV and V will resume this week; the prompt for the essay of Antony's funeral speech will be distributed and a due date set.

The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Acts IV and V continue in class this week. Film screening date will be announced and the final essay for the play scheduled. Antigone begins in mid-February.

Vocabulary Workshop
Units Seven-Nine assignment is due next Tuesday, February 16. The Unit One-Nine test will be scheduled next week.

Work on the Douglass, Cisneros, and Alexie pieces continue in class as well as multiple choice practice in preparation for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition assessment. The practice essay on movie ratings is due by the end of the week; no late submissions accepted.

Holt Grammar

Preparation for the Getty Museum at the Villa field trip will begin this week as students are acquainted with the trip's purpose and objectives. Trip slips must be completed and returned by Wednesday, February 24; any late field trip slips will result in students not completing the trip. Lunch tickets dated March 1, 2010 must be submitted by Friday, February 19; students who do not submit lunch tickets by this date will be responsible for either buying lunch at the Villa or bringing their own lunches. Students must write names on lunch tickets for submission to the cafeteria manager. In-class web site exploration will accompany written lesson plans as additional preparation for this important learning opportunity.

Paraphrasing activity for the Douglass piece is scheduled for Monday. More work on the Douglass and Malcolm X selections are scheduled in class as students prepare for the Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition. Multiple choice practice also continues in class.

No vocabulary work is due for this week and will be assignment after final exams.

Students read The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and outlined relevant sections of the Shakespeare/American Communities website so that prereading was complete before study of the play. Additional winter break homework including reading checks and Acts I-V questions, which are also due today.

Students will complete and organize portfolios this week so that assignments are in order for the upcoming semester reflection final examination.

"Straw into Gold" by Sandra Cisneros and "Superman and Me" by Sherman Alexie will be reviewed for the upcoming Secondary Periodic Assessment-Exposition exam; "Narrative in the life of Frederick Douglass" nonfiction excerpt will be assigned in class. Multiple choice test taking skills will be assigned in class this week to prepare for that component of the examination.
